Ideal Gas Law

Calculate ideal-gas pressure from amount, absolute temperature and volume.

How this calculator works

Enter amount of gas (mol), temperature (k), volume (l). Select Calculate to apply the displayed formula and review the labeled results.

Formula / method

P = nRT ÷ V, using R = 8.314462618 kPa·L·mol⁻¹·K⁻¹

Worked example

One mole at 298.15 K in 24.465 L has a pressure of about 101.33 kPa.

Assumptions and limitations

The gas behaves ideally and temperature is entered in kelvin.

Real gases deviate at high pressure, low temperature and near phase changes; use an equation of state when needed.
