Formula / method
Pace = elapsed time ÷ distance; speed = distance ÷ time
Worked example
Running 5 km in 30 minutes gives a 6:00 min/km pace and 10 km/h speed.
Assumptions and limitations
Distance is measured in kilometers and elapsed time excludes pauses unless intentionally included.
Average pace does not describe hills, intervals, terrain or race conditions.
